If you would like to do your bit to help save the planet and reduce waste, read on to find out how to create a zero waste dental routine today!

We all know the importance of maintaining a consistent dental routine.

As my mum says: “You only get one set in your life so make sure you look after them”.

However, most oral hygiene products that you find in the supermarket consist of harsh chemicals and are made with, or packaged in plastic.

The type of plastic commonly used in dental routine products can be very difficult/impossible to recycle meaning that the large majority of dental routine products end up in landfill or our oceans.

Step 1:

Ok so the first item in a zero-waste dental routine should be the toothbrush!

Roughly 3.5 billion toothbrushes are sold worldwide each year and over 99% of these are made from plastic. Unfortunately, plastic toothbrushes are not recyclable.

A bamboo toothbrush is a fantastic alternative to a plastic toothbrush.

Fancy starting your dental routine with a new, high quality Moso bamboo toothbrush? Buy one here! We sell storm grey, moss green and cloud white options.

Step 2:

Secondly, Toothpaste!

Toothpaste tends to be packaged in a plastic or foil like tube. Even the foil tubes have a plastic lining (much like coca cola cans) to ensure that the toothpaste does not begin to taste like metal.

We offer a plastic free alternative to the common toothpaste… Toothpaste in a glass jar!

These toothpastes are 100% natural and contain essential ingredients for tooth health including calcium, potassium and magnesium.

Step 3:

Thirdly, Dental Floss!

Has your dentist told you that you need to floss more? I think a lot of us are guilty of not flossing enough!

Typically, dental floss is made from polyester fibres and contained within a plastic receptacle. The dental floss itself will not compost as it is made from a synthetic material. The plastic containers are often difficult to recycle and not always taken by kerbside recycling as they are commonly made from #5 plastic.

We offer a 100% natural and compostable dental floss made from Ahimsa silk and contained within a glass jar. The floss is spearmint flavoured and refills will be available in the near future.

Step 4:

The grand finale…

Mouthwash!!

We offer mouthwash tablets in a glass bottle.  Not only are the mouthwash tablets environmentally friendly and zero waste, they are great to travel with as the jar does not contain any liquid.

To use:

  • Dissolve 1 tablet in 20ml of water
  • Gargle for at least 30 seconds
  • Spit out without rinsing
